Doctorate in Computer Science (DCS)

A doctorate in computer science provides intensive research preparation in design, programming, theory, and application. This program is offered to both academically-minded students and students with professional goals, industrial and government jobs that require advanced knowledge of computer theory and technology. This Doctoral degree research focuses on algorithms, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, computer and network security, database systems, data mining, distributed algorithms, and many other core areas of computer science.

In many ways, the DCS program is the cornerstone of computer science at the EIMT Institute. With a DCS degree, you can become an expert in the technical subfield of computer science and advance the state of the art by contributing original research in this field. Many DCS students also gain practical experience in the classroom and become visible members of the research community by presenting their research and giving oral presentations at conferences and research seminars. Our DCS students have contributed largely to various companies across diverse industries in solving technical issues.

The goal of the DCS program is to produce a new generation of computer science graduates with a broad background in information technology, project management, and interpersonal skills. Graduates of this program not only possess strong technical expertise in their field but also the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and tackle problems that require both technical and non-technical solutions.

This degree is distinctive from other existing computer science degrees as it focuses on both applied research and professional skills development. Most graduates of this program aim to pursue careers in industrial research and software development. The program also prepares graduates for careers in academia, although most graduates of this program are expected to choose a career in industry. Focused on the skills necessary for success, it is market-oriented and reflects the Institute's goal of providing quality professional training.

Individual Study Plan | Practitioner Based Project/Dissertation:

The primary step for prospective scholars is drafting their research proposal. This proposal can be an 8-10 page document that consists of essential factors of the DCS program. Our pre-defined template will facilitate an easier and quicker process of documentation. Students are advised to keep their initial research proposal ready within the first month of enrolment and submit it. You will receive feedback and guidance on your Research proposal from your designated supervisor or Research Faculty. The template for your preliminary research proposal can be found here.

One can consider the following points while selecting his/her topic for the research project.

  • In-depth research on a single subject assessing a novel or inventive intervention, technical answers, etc.
  • An evaluation of a program and an action research or participatory action research study
  • A field investigation that looks at theoretical conceptions;
  • A survey study looking at beliefs, attitudes, or behaviors within a subject matter or discipline
  • As an enhancement to a business process.

As the pointers reflect, the doctoral degree program requires extensive knowledge of the literature about the particular subject areas and sophistication of how a project is developed and presented. These projects enhance students' experience and equip them to develop expertise in their specialization and prepare them to be competent practitioner-scholars. To achieve this goal, students are recommended to pursue a topic in which they already have extensive practical experience.
